SUMMER IS FINALLY HERE!!!

Oh how we love summer in Asuncion!!! The air temps are lovely, around low 80′s and the winds are starting to ease off now. People are fixing up their homes and businesses for the summer season…lots of painting going on! Our Sunset Casita got a new colour this year…sure is dazzling eh! The halibut have arrived so the beach is alive with fishermen these days.  Here is the Sunset Casa in a new colour…now for some trim around the windows and work on the front yard. We arent the only ones painting….a neighbour chose one of my favorite colours…

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

FEBRUARY 2010

We have had a wonderful first couple months this year…excellent summer like weather and lots of projects on the go in the village. Several of our new members of the community are building or fixing up their homes which has been really exciting watching all the new additions spring up. there is a flurry of building going on around the village…a good sign!

I’m so proud of our builders who have branched out into more creative work with curved pathways, rock patios and furniture.

Juan is working hard on finishing up our rock rooms at the blowhole B&B…they are stunning and so quiet and peaceful inside…like a sanctuary.

the patio will be laja rock with lovely arches and a fantastic view of Asuncion Island…breakfast will be served whenever you want it and you can count the whales passing by as you sip your special coffee!

Galeria Bahia has come a long way this year with a fantastic new rock patio and beautiful landscaping. Nancy has been painting alot as well as finishing up the many commisions from visitors to the gallery. They are enjoying choosing plants and trees for landscaping the front patio.Here is a link to see her work

Sandra & Victor have transformed the abandoned house they bought into a beautiful home and are the proud owners of Asuncion’s 1st ever spiral staircase up to their deck! And their new rock patio is a work of art!  They are anxious to finish the house so they can get to work on putting in the gardens in raised beds…hopefully by next season we will all be enjoying their organic veggies!

I am so proud of our builders Roberto & family for doing such creative work for all our amigos here. They have done some fantastic homes as well as patios, rock benches, BBQ’s, counters, tiling etc. that everyone is very pleased with.

Juanita’s Kitchen…our favorite eatery has been transformed as well from a dirt floor lean to….to a new concrete restaurant!!

The highway crew is preparing to begin work on paving the last 10 km of dirt road…supposed to finish all the way into town by august.

The surfers have been stoked with the large swells last month. WE have had some epic waves the last month.

Lobster season is over for another year and abalone fishermen are axiously awaiting the ocean to calm down enough for them to start their season diving for abs here.

Fishermen have been pleased with the yellowtail catches and great weather. This 42 lb yellowtail was caught by our deckhand Juan Carlos while jigging for calico on light tackle! There have been lots of nice calico brought in as well and shore fishermen report halibut and yellowfin croakers in front of the campground.
